Ticks and Lyme Disease
Prompt tick removal and monitoring can reduce the risk of Lyme disease. Ottawa Public Health provides local advice about ticks, prevention and assessment.
If you find a tick
Use fine-tipped tweezers to grasp the tick close to the skin and pull upward steadily. Clean the area and note the date and likely exposure location.
When to contact a clinician
Seek advice if the tick may have been attached for a prolonged period, you develop an expanding rash, fever, headache, joint pain or other concerning symptoms, or you are unsure about next steps.
